AZCO® History Timeline

AZCO INC. was founded 60 years ago with the vision of providing customers with complete industrial construction services from A to Z.

This foresight has become the foundation of what our company is today: an employee owned, full service industrial constructor and fabricator.

Our commitment to our customers is to complete contracts on schedule and within budget. We keep this promise by providing our customers with dedicated people with special skills and in-depth experience.

1949

Four individuals identify a need in the Fox Valley for a quality mechanical contractor to serve the industrial marketplace. Together they form AZCO INC., signifying service offerings from A to Z. Initially, serving the pulp and paper industry from its base in Appleton, Wisconsin, AZCO expands its markets to include power generation and a broad range of manufacturing.

1953

AZCO, in response to a large industrial ventilation project, establishes its first metal fabrication facility.

1982

Increased demand from the food and beverage and power industries leads to the construction of a separate stainless steel pipe fabrication shop and major expansion of its carbon steel pipe fabrication facility.

1985

AZCO purchases HENNES ERECTING, INC., of Appleton. HENNES ERECTING provided heavy machinery moving and installation, power boiler and environmental services, as well as steel erecting services. The combined firm, AZCO HENNES INC., self-performed a full range of services to an industrial marketplace including power generation facilities, foundries and steel mills, food processing plants and breweries, chemical and plastic firms. AZCO® furnished a seamless approach to its industrial owners.

1995

AZCO drops the HENNES name from its corporate identity reverting back to the simplicity of AZCO INC.

1998

AZCO constructs a new metal fabrication shop for the fabrication of ASME pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, and heavy ductwork.

1998

A management group forms an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) with the non-union office staff to purchase the founder’s majority interest in the company.

2006

AZCO INC. became 100% employee owned. Recognized by ENR as one of the top 20 Power Contractors in the nation.

2007

AZCO's growth in sales led to the necessary addition of 40,000 square feet of shop space for pipe and metal fabrication for a combined total of 120,000 square feet. Recognized by ENR for the second year as one of the top 20 Power Contractors in the nation.

2009

AZCO INC. Celebrates 60th Anniversary!   1949 - 2009

AZCO INC. started business in 1949 with four individuals who identified a need for quality mechanical contractors in the Fox Valley initially serving the pulp and paper industry the region is known for. Originally the name developed out of an idea signifying service offerings from A – Z and has come a long way from the “one call gets them all” slogan the business started with.

Today, AZCO INC. is an ESOP company employing over one hundred individuals in the Fox Valley, working with approximately 525 union craftsmen. AZCO provides heavy industrial construction and fabrication services across the country serving the power generation, metal casting, food and beverage industries as well as general manufacturing.

Mark. Loper, President and CEO of AZCO INC. said, “Sixty years in the business is a remarkable accomplishment in any industry, but particularly in the industrial construction industry that has seen so many contractors come and go. It’s remarkable what the men and women of AZCO have built in such a short time.”

During the past 60 years, AZCO INC. has worked on some very notable projects as well as with some very notable locally based companies such as Kimberly Clark, Neenah Foundry, Wisconsin Public Service, Waupaca Foundry, We Energies, Alliant Energy and Bemis-Curwood. In addition, AZCO has partnered with Miller Electric for many years testing and using Miller Welding machines in the fabrication locations and in the field.

Executive Vice President, John Trottier adds, “We will take time out to honor our past this year, but mostly we want to celebrate the future. I’ve been asked how AZCO can continue to be successful despite the challenges of our economy. My answer is people, quality and safety. We have some of the best and hardest working employees in the industry providing quality craftsmanship in a safe environment. They understand what it means to take care of our customers.”

AZCO INC. records 5 million man-hours without a lost time incident.
